I have been a member of the MCOA (Mastiff Club of America) for 8 years. I fell in love with this breed when I was 13, at my first dog show. But I didn't get my first show dog until much much later. Nala, my foundation bitch, came from a local breeder. Like most beginners, I didn't know what to look for when I started. I now know about the OFA, health standards, proper breeding requirements and what to look for in a 8 week old puppy. At the time, I just knew that she was beautiful and I loved her. I started showing Nala when she was a year old. A year later, I got Apollo from Enchanted Forest Mastiffs and I knew I had found the breed I wanted to spend my life with. I don't breed often, 4 litters in 10 years, but I am very proud of the dogs I have produced and been associated with.
My two daughters both show in Juior showmanship, although my eldest daughter shows a Pembroke Welsh Corgi instead of a Mastiff. I don't know if they will carry on with the dogs, but they are still in their teens and have a whole big world to explore right now. Please check out our Juniors Page for their accomplishments. I am so proud of them!
I am a big believer in health clearances, All of my dogs have been checked and cleared for Hip and Elbow dysplasia, Cardiac issues, Thyroid, Patellas, Von Wildebrands disease and Crystinuria (crystals in the urine) before they are considered as breeding cantidates. I require all of those tests in potential mates as well, although I always consider the whole dog rather than rely on "paperbreedings" and will make exceptions when I feel that the dog is an asset to the breed as a whole. My breeding goals are to produce happy, healthy, structurally sound, well tempermented companions who can excell in the show ring as well as cuddle on the couch.
